Luke Jones
Managing Director

Knowing that trade-based learning was his strength, Luke pursued an early age apprenticeship, which saw him qualified as an Electrical Mechanic by the age of 19. Upon completion of his apprenticeship he knew he was ready to pursue the next step in his working and management career by moving into the mining sector.

After a couple of years in the mining industry as a tradesman his desire for more strengthened leading to the founding of Weststate Energy PTY LTD with Co Founder Tim Byrne in 2010.

Having consistent workload since the inception of Weststate Energy has seen significant growth providing the ability to give back.

During his 20+ years of experience in the electrical industry he has been involved in various roles, Serving as an Electrician, Supervisor, Manager and Managing Director where he has played key roles in operations and business management.

As the Director of Weststate Energy he is dedicated to building long term client relationships to provide safe, quality and reliable electrical services whilst maintaining market competitiveness. Whilst client focus is a motivator for his day to day business he also takes great pride in giving back to the internal team of Weststate Energy by supporting and fostering the great culture we have today.

WSE MT Tim

Tim Byrne
Managing Director

Tim is the Managing Director of Weststate Energy with over two decades of hands-on and executive-level experience.

Starting his career as a licensed electrician in Canberra, Tim worked his way up from the tools, gaining real-life insight into every layer of project delivery from service calls to major Defence infrastructure builds before moving to Western Australia in 2008. In 2010, Tim co-founded Weststate Energy with Luke Jones with a plan to build a leading electrical contracting company with a strong focus on the mining sector. At Weststate Energy, Tim leads a multidisciplinary team of electricians and project managers, overseeing all aspects of project delivery from design, compliance, risk management and client engagement. His commitment to safety, efficiency, and innovation ensures every project meets the highest standards of performance and integrity.

Tim is also responsible for driving operational growth, developing internal systems, and cultivating a company culture built on honesty, accountability and continuous improvement.

WSE MT Chris

Chris Sadler
Operations Manager

Chris is an accomplished Operations Manager with a strong electrical background and over a decade of leadership within the Australian energy and mining sectors.

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Chris brings deep technical expertise and proven operational leadership to his role at Weststate Energy, where he has been a pivotal team member for the past 11 years.

Chris began his electrical journey at just 16 in the UK, gaining early hands-on experience in the fixed plant sector. After qualifying in his trade and gaining post-trade experience, he moved to Australia, where he worked on Navy submarines with a focus on preventative maintenance and systems reliability—further sharpening his attention to safety, precision, and quality.

After transitioning into the mining industry, Chris steadily moved into leadership roles—first as an Electrical Supervisor, then Superintendent, and ultimately into his current position as Operations Manager. He is highly regarded for his commitment to safety, quality, and team development, playing a key role in nurturing a strong, values-driven culture at Weststate Energy.

In his current role, Chris is the first point of call for operational support and guidance, ensuring the safety of our people remains the highest priority. He also oversees the full project lifecycle—from tendering and cost estimation through to delivery, commissioning, and client handover. His passion for the electrical industry and the people within it continues to drive his focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.

WSE MT Will

Will Cowie
Project Director

Will is a driven innovative professional, with over 25 years’ experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation and communication trades.

Will’s journey started off in the commercial and industrial construction industry in Perth where he completed his trade time as apprentice, by his 3rd and 4th year he was at the top of his field and nominated for apprentice of the year. Will was offered an early release as he was ahead of his studies and already leading projects and other tradespersons.

As an already accomplished tradesman, Will sought the opportunity to progress his career further and continued to progress into leadership roles on various works around the local region, after a few years, decided that he needed to expand his skills and knowledge and decided to move over to the mining construction industry.

With a dedication to quality, safety, pragmatic approach to problem solving and attention to detail, there was no turning back. It did not take long for his abilities to be recognised, appointed as leading hand to supervisor to running his own end to end projects as superintendent then as a construction manager. In 2014 shifted industry to oil and gas where the next chapter of achievements continued.

Delivered construction phase as an area superintendent, stayed on as maintenance projects superintendent, supported as a preventative and corrective turnaround coordinator and finally to overall turnaround superintendent running onshore and offshore maintenance works.

Will joined Weststate Energy in November 2021 to progress his career further as a project manager, the company’s core values and people being the greatest asset was aligned with the change he was looking for. Together, they have successfully completed multiple projects, end to end delivery, ensuring safety and quality over productivity and budget. Will’s focus will be on continuing to build stronger relations with clients and suppliers, supporting, and mentoring the craft and management teams to ensure the continual improvement and operational success of the business.

WSE MT Ash

Ash Ryan
Project Manager

With over 22 years of experience in the Electrical industry, including 16 years in mining, bulk material handling, rail, and port operations, Ash has developed a broad and deep skillset across both technical and leadership roles. His career began with hands-on expertise in fixed plant systems, high voltage switchgear, instrumentation, control systems, and PLCs, providing a strong technical foundation for leadership.

Ash’s career advanced through successive leadership roles, from Maintenance Supervisor to Electrical Engineering Project Supervisor, and later to Electrical Engineering Superintendent. During this period, he completed a Diploma in Project Management and expanded his expertise in asset integrity, performance and reliability assessments, project management, and high voltage network operations across critical infrastructure.

As Project Manager for Weststate Energy, Ash is driven by a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence and is proud to be a part of a high performing team deliver high-value projects across the Pilbara region for major Tier 1 clients.

WSE MT JP

Jonathon Peet (JP)
Project Manager

JP is an accomplished mining professional with over 15 years of experience in electrical supervision, project management, and Operations leadership across large-scale mining operations in Australian and Africa.

With qualifications including Diplomas in Surface Operations Management and Leadership & Management, and an Unrestricted Quarry Manager Certificate, Jonathan combines technical expertise with Continuous Improvement. His background spans frontline electrical work through to senior superintendent and Project Manager roles, giving him a unique end-to-end understanding of mining operations.

New to the Weststate team JP is keen on helping grow the Weststate name and share his experiences and knowledge through safe delivery and continuous improvement of the industry.
